Next Meeting Wednesday, May 23rd 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Event: 3rd Annual Birds of a Feather Lunch

Topic: The Human Factors of IT Service Managment

The itSMF's Nashville Local Interest Group is proud to offer you a unique opportunity to meet and collaborate with other practitioners in the Nashville Metro area.  Practitioners will share insights, ideas, and lessons learned from their personal experiences. Each table will focus on the Human Factors of IT Service Management.

Attendees will be able to participate in several sessions out of the 5 being conducted.

Available sessions are:

CyberOverload: There are numerous psychological studies that have demonstrated the impact of being available via the devices in our lives 24/7/365.  Interestingly enough, the business of IT empowers us to allow ourselves to be inundated with a constant stream of information, some useless, all of which must be analyzed, cataloged and otherwise processed.  This group will examine the impact of these new technological phenomena on our efficiency, effectiveness, productivity and overall quality of life. Table moderated by Alan Cantrell and Jane Mandeville.

Organizational Change: ITSM practitioners are all well aware that they are called on to change culture within organizations.  Understanding this, what are the tradeoffs that must take place in order to realize real and lasting change within and organization?  The conventional wisdom suggests that institutional mandates are the most efficient way to implement changes within an organization.  Is this really true?  These questions and others will be examined in this group. Table moderated by Nancy Lorenzi or Kate Hegge.

The Role of Social Media Within the Organization: The advent of social media has vastly improved our ability to get back in touch with family and old friends, as well as enhance our business networks.  IT practitioners are expected to enable and even enhance the use of tools such as LinkedIn and Facebook.  However, there are numerous risks to the organization…disclosure of trade secrets, exposure to malicious code, abuse of company assets, just to name a few.  What’s more, should we expect that present and potential employers will respect our privacy related to social media content?  These questions and more will be examined by this group.

The Consumerization of IT: Twenty years ago, the services offered by the IT organization were very secure…they were the only game in town.  In today’s world, if IT customers aren’t happy with the services offered by IT, the functionality they seek can often be found at the local big box retailer or on-line reseller.  Should the IT organization attempt to restrict this type of activity with organizational mandates?  With technology?  What are the risks of allowing customers and users to craft their own solutions?  These issues will be studied by this group.

Workforce Management: In today’s world, managers are faced with a number of challenges that are new to this generation.  For one, people are living longer, and therefore, working longer than ever before.  This implies that the IT manager must accommodate the senior professional, and their experience and insight is very valuable to the organization.  However, these workers must co-exist with workers that are often several generations younger, and that bring an entirely different set of experiences, attitudes and perspectives into the workplace.  To this add the ideas of outsourcing and co-sourcing to the traditional shared services model of IT, and you have an interesting mix of tests for the modern IT manager.  These issues will be examined by this group. Table moderated by Lori Smiley.

Attendees will network in-depth with experienced managers, users, and vendors in the area of best practices. This is an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues and peers - learning and sharing experiences, timely information, great ideas, and critical questions - in a highly interactive environment. Group discussions will be moderated by Subject Matter Experts who can provide insight and support and encourage group learning in their area of expertise.

Come find out what the experts have to say on these various topics relevant in IT today.
